Pre and Post Natal Massage

24 CE credit

This course will provide the appropriate knowledge needed to offer safe and therapeutic massage to pregnant and postpartum clients. It includes 10-hours of guided instruction followed by 14-hours of hands-on learning. Students who complete this course will learn the anatomy and physiology of the female body and the changes that occur during pregnancy, as well as appropriate positioning, draping techniques, intake process, and adaptations along with specific massage techniques to help with common issues during pregnancy and the postpartum period.


Prerequisites:  Students must be certified massage therapists to take this course.

Course Outline

Fundamentals

Students will learn about physical changes during pregnancy, and the benefits and contraindications of prenatal massage. 

Ethical Considerations

Review the ethical considerations of prenatal massage, high risk pregnancies and complications, and when to refer out. 

Techniques and Adaptions

Learn safe and proper techniques and massage adaptations to use on a prenatal, laboring, and postpartum massage client. 

Putting it all together    

Students will learn a detailed 60 and 90 minute routine, complete with adaptations, modifications, proper intake process and communication.
